Daughters of Kali™ - Mentorship Program

Mentorship & Rites of Passage for Girls and Boys

Daughters of Kali™ is also committed to raising awareness for girls and boys about the Goddess and the reclamation of personal power in a patriarchal world. As more and more women speak out about their personal needs and about the rewards of sisterhood as fostered through woman-affirming programs, and as boys find safe spaces in which to be their full selves, social change occurs. Daughters of Kali™ therefore also prepares individuals to work in SHARANYA's mentorship programs, providing a forum for rites of passage work and support for those dealing with life changes. The work of mentorship to those in Daughters of Kali™ wishing to assist tomorrow's change makers begins with empowerment of the individual in order to create community, as well as a larger sense of connection to and of viability in the world for our young people. The circle thus provides a base to facilitate mentoring of boys and girls ages 9-17, and helps to create rites of passage ceremonies for all those wishing to mark and celebrate the blood mysteries and coming of age in a sacred context.

For Young Women and Girls

How do we change the attitudes around menstruation, both as a culture and as women ultimately impacted by the values, norms and traditions of our society? SHARANYA answers this question through the work of Daughters of Kali™ by creating safe spaces that allow for life-affirming, supportive, and positive valuations of girls and women to occur; by providing good information and easy-to-understand educational materials; by facilitating peer-to-peer discussion circles; and by training community leaders to bring rites of passage ceremonies to their own girls and women. Thus, Daughters of Kali™ engages the blood mysteries in ceremonies that empower those participating in them, provides a forum for support of women's experience and lived reality vis-à-vis menstruation, and offers a vehicle for the transformation of other related issues and/or concerns affecting women and girls, such as the onset of eating disorders which, as is the case with anorexia nervosa, often have a direct correlation to menarche.
